What is Math Team?

Math Team is the math competition club at Hamden Hall. Open to all 9th - 12th graders, it is comprised of a Varsity team and a Junior Varsity team. Math Team meets in Mrs. Agulians room (W30) every Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00.

The Varsity Math Team usually has five competitions from September to February; once a month on a Thursday. Five rounds for individuals and one team round make up each meet.  Students choose three rounds that most match their expertise and then each five-member team participates in the “Team” round. Historically Hamden Hall fields four or five teams. Only “Team A’s” points count toward the ranking.  The position of each student in a team may change with each event.  After five competitions the top schools go on to a State Competition in March. The top four schools then go to the New Englands; which Hamden Hall traditionally qualifies for.

Junior Varsity

The Junior Varsity team competes three times a year as a practice for the varsity level. The subjects for these competitions span from 7th grade Math to PreCalculus.  Students’ participation in this competition enhances their ability to be fast and better problem-solvers with a keen eye for short cuts.  It helps them remember previous material and gives them confidence for the SAT, ACT, and other tests.
